Change

Change...

Change can be like a crossword puzzle
You have all the clues to guide you
To help you fill in the blanks
Just when it's almost complete
You realize one word is off
Not that it's not a "right" answer
Just that it isn't the one you needed

So, you look for your eraser and get to work!
Now, all the other answers seem to follow
Some you didn't even know you knew, but did...
But that simple change was a catalyst
For all the changes yet to come
Before you know it, it's midnight
And your eyes are heavy, and your pencil dull

You hit the lights and put your hands behind your head
As you consider your progress for the day
You gaze into a world unknown, through the ceiling paint
You half smile as you realize you have returned
To your bed and crossword puzzle

Good night, World.
Good night, my Love.
Good night, Me.

My Dream Come True

Yes, ladies and gentlemen! I made it to the concert of my dreams!!! Here is the basic break down:

We get there early to get in line. We wait for Veronica and Cathy (they are making their way up from Fresno). We wait in line, laugh at all the people sporting their New Kids gear (secretly jealous we didn't have the funds to do the exact same thing. The event staff finally let us enter the Pavilion.

I make a mad dash for the entrance, flying up the steps, do a ballet leap, and then a second one, surprising, not only the event stuff, but even myself at how much air my not small in stature self, actually got! As the event staff person scanned my ticket I said, "Don't worry, I work out." Not only was I excited for the concert, Mother Nature was calling my name, and out of respect for her, I answered the call as soon as I was indoors.

After a few opening acts, one being Natasha Beddingfield, who was quite good, the introduction music, lights, and on screen light show began!

I screamed...

...I cried...

I screamed some more...

...I cried...yes, again...

..."they're back" and then...
they came on the stage...

They came on the stage, and I about died! Okay, so they never made it to the Orosi Memorial Hall, but I was watching them live and in concert. I brought my girls with me, and by the end of the concert, which happened to be amazing, and I'm not just saying that, even Carrie was shaking what her mama gave her!!! It was fantastic, and there really isn't much more I can say that can describe the amount of energy that filled the arena! There were more really, really, really pregnant women there, then I have ever seen at a concert, and I wouldn't be surprised if some of them went into labor, but waited till the concert was over before asking for help to the local Emergency Room.

Jessie was deaf from me screaming in both of her ears, and grabbing her by the arm and jumping up and down, and screaming, like somebody really hot was singing...oh wait, there was! Despite my desire to be a lady, the obscenities, and desires of my body were in control of my mouth. I swear, in those moments, I really did want Jordan Knight to leave his wife, marry me, and I would raise his current children, as well as have the rest of them! I'm sure he would convert! At least, I was convinced of it that night!

It was amazing! Thanks girls! I had a blast! Post concert breakfast and shopping was amazing as well.

Countdown....NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK

Tomorrow night is my dream come true. Ever since I first heard the dulcet tone of Jordan Knight's voice, and the fun eighties and early nineties beats, I have been a devoted fan of New Kids On the Block. It was my dream that I see them in concert! I have no fancy Cinderella story of winning tickets and backstage passes, but I did sacrifice groceries for the week to buy tickets to see them. I had the support of my friends to feed me that week, and they did so with flying colors!

Not that seeing them face to face and engaging in a pick up game, as I took it to the whole to score on Donnie, or assist Jordan on a weak side pass and three point shot, but that is a fantasy, not a dream. My dream is going to be realized tomorrow night at the HP Pavilion. When I was a kid, I used to pray that they would book the Orosi Memorial Hall, but it never happened. Don't laugh about that! My little town (now 7 thousand strong with their own McDonald's and even a Bank of the West), was a big place to me then. All the biggest events that occurred in my town, ended up at the Memorial Hall. Weddings, quinceneras (sp?), and everything awesome happened in that small building! Why not NEW KIDS?

I am more excited than you can know! Not only that, but my cousin and her friend are coming up for it as well, and or Post Concert breakfast Saturday morning will be at O.D.'s!!! My favorite breakfast place!!! I hope I don't die before the concert!

Sewing Saturday

I decided to make a new tennis skirt while I watched General Conference on Saturday. I wish I had the funds to make the outfits I designed (I am not a great artist, but the pics get the ideas across), but I didn't want to let that get me down. I took an old pair of basketball shorts...my Duke Shorts, to be exact, and made a skirt. I also used an old shirt that I don't' wear anymore as well. This is what I came up with (it looks better on me).

I plan to make a few more skirts out of existing shorts, since I have so many shorts that I shouldn't wear anymore, even though they are my favorite things to wear! I have been playing a lot more tennis than basketball these days, and I have found that my range of motion on the court is improved when I wear skirts, or comfortable pants or shorts. Here are some of my ideas for tennis clothes!I'm thinking these out fits would be fun to make, as well as fun to wear! That is part of the excitement for me. Creating something from nothing. Part of what I love about my job is that I get to use a computer to create something beautiful. Seeing the end product of what I do, gives me great satisfaction and a greater appreciation for the craftsmanship needed in producing beautiful doors, furniture, or whatever it is one wishes to create. I still need to sew a blanket for Landon, and finish Hayden's! Sigh...busy times ahead.

Marathon Friday!!!

Jessie sent me a text at around 515 saying she wasn't gonna make it to the gym, even though we agreed on meeting at 515 instead of our normal time! Even though we allowed some sleeping in time, she still was tired and even had a headache! Oh well! I am not afraid to workout alone!!! So, I headed over the the Club and swam for over an hour! It was so great! There were a lot of friendly people in the pool, and one guy cracked me up! Every time we were catching our breath at the same time, he decided that was the best time to chat! So, between his heavy breathing and mine, we engaged in "chat chit."

My arms felt like noodles, but I was determined to get some personal time in with my racquet. I hit several baskets of balls and it was awesome! I had the court to myself and took advantage of the early morning to it's fullest. I decided to keep the muscle work even and hit both left and right handed serves and strokes. It was a great exercise to test my control and dexterity. As soon as I get more consistent, it's gonna be awesome!

I went home for a grilled cheese and chicken sandwich, then back to the Club for my clinic. It was great! I learned so much and got more exercise. By 1145, I was in my car and on my way home to meet up with Jessie and Heather. We planned on going to Gilroy to have breakfast at O.D.'s and check out the outlets and to skate the Coyote Creek Trail in Morgan Hill. I was pretty much starving, even though I had a grilled cheese already. Swimming makes me terribly hungry and I had to take some drugs to keep a headache at bay.

We loaded our skates into Jessie's PT Cruiser (less any safety equipment, their idea, not mine, but I went along), and made our way to Gilroy. Breakfast was amazing, as it always is at O.D.'s, and Jessie changed it up by getting lunch. This was Heather's first time there and she seemed to enjoy it. Our favorite server, Rocio, was awesome and provided great service and her fun personality! She's a sweet girl! As soon as we were all plenty content, Heather decided that she wasn't up for skating, but still wanted to hit up the outlets.

We went to Banana Republic, where Heather bought a way cute dress! Can't wait to see her wear it out or to church! She looked great in it! Banana Republic is not my (or Jessie's) style of store, mostly because it is way expensive, but also because we like cheap and comfortable! LOL! So, we hit up the Nike store where Jessie and I shared a fitting room. I brought in six different things, and needed assistance with all of them!!! They were all sport tops, but since I was trying to squeeze into some of these shirts, it was a lot of work for me and for Jessie! Hahaha! They were tops for swimming and such, but I was still a little sweaty, so that is why it was a little bit of work. Thanks, Jess! You are always a good sport!

I for sure didn't buy anything, but really wanted to buy this great running zip up hoody, but it was $30. Gotta pay the rent! Hahaha! Jessie left with a few goodies, and added a second swim suit to her wardrobe! We swim nearly everyday, so I am glad she got it for so cheap!!! Next stop, Adidas! We spent a lot of time in that store, since Jessie and I love it so much. We could totally be Adidas Poster Girls!!! I think half my wardrobe is Adidas. When they have sales and clearance, the deals are just so good and so cheap! No fancy sales but their clearance is always fun to go through.

Finally, we were on our way to Morgan Hill. After stopping at Target for hydration and to take more pain killers, we were on our way! Heather of course took the lead and I stayed in the middle to bring up the rear. It was great weather for skating; a little overcast, cooler than warmer, and a nice breeze. We hit the mile marker in no time at all, and enjoyed the rolling hills. Nothing too scary, as Heather doesn't like big hills.

Here is where the day got more exciting!

Just after the 1.5 mile marker, Jessie decided that she wanted to roll over a rock on a downhill stretch. Since I was in the middle, I heard Jessie's skates (not her wheels) scraping the pavement for about two seconds (this is a long time in the world of "Munching it hard" land). So, I turned to look and saw Jessie face down on the trail. I turned to stop and saw that she was rolling over to the side of the trail. I yelled to Heather to let her know we had a "man down" and skated over to Jessie. She was on her back and when I asked if she was okay, she put up her hand to gesture that I give her a moment. She worked hard to take controlled breaths, when Heather arrived and asked the same question, Jessie, again, with the same gesture, asked for a moment.

She finally started to sit up and explain what had happened. Her elbows and knees were scrapped pretty good, and she was plenty dirty. As a cyclist was passing by I asked if he had some water we could use to rinse off our friend's injuries. He was happy to help and even after we returned his water bottle, started squirting her injuries more, since he felt we hadn't rinsed her sufficiently. When she was finally ready to get up, the gentleman offered his services, noting that he was the only one not wearing skates and gave Jessie the reassurance, "Don't worry! I am a happily married man!" We all laughed about it and thanked him.

Jessie is always a trooper! She decided that she could still go on! She and I skated at a slower pace after that, and Heather put on her turbo boosters! At the two mile mark, Jessie realized that she was just too sore to keep going any further, since she still had to skate back two miles. I told her that I thought it was a good idea, and that I would skate ahead and let Heather know. So I skated on. And on. And on.

I couldn't find Heather, and it was starting to get dark. I knew there were two dark areas of the trail, and if I stayed much longer looking for Heather, I too, would be skating in the dark. So, I headed back and enjoyed a nice pace! It felt good to be moving so quickly, and smoothly on the trail. The few hills that I climbed were a lot easier than I thought they would be on the return trip, and that made me smile. I thought to myself, "I am in better shape than I realized!" Every few minutes on a straightaway, I would glance over my shoulder to check for Heather, but never caught sight of her. As I made my way back to the car, I saw Jessie sitting in the car waiting. I checked to see if Heather was with her, and when she was not, I told her to move the car to an opening near the trail up near the bridge. I started back on the trail to try and find Heather.

I felt like I was flying with very little effort, so I hollered over to Jessie to ask her how fast I was going (she was pacing me in her car), but was sad to find out I was only going 10 mph. It just seems so much faster! Hahaha! Finally, I told Jessie to park and that I would go back and check for Heather since there was still some light. I headed back to the bridge, where I asked an oncoming cyclist if she had seen a girl on Rollerblades. She smiled and said that she was not too far away and I would see her soon. So, I started on the bridge, but chose to take it slow. From my direction on the bridge it was downhill.

By the time I met up with Heather, she mentioned she had biffed it as well, but it was because she was trying to stop herself by using a nearby pole, and the pole had not been as secure as she had hoped. I laughed and as I was about 10 yards from the car I thought, "I am the only one who hasn't fallen, but I will wait until I am in the care before I say anything." As I got to the driver side window to talk to Jessie while I took off my skates, my pant leg caught on my back wheel of my left foot, and I went down to the ground! Not only did I fall on my backside, but my pants had come down as well. I was bare bummed and had to quickly pull my pants back up while sitting on the road. It was so funny! Out of the three falls, I was the only one who's fall had been witnessed by others, but I was the only one without battle wounds!

We made our way back to San Jose and Jessie and I ate a quick dinner and cleaned her wounds. I had the honor of pouring Hydrogen Peroxide over her wounds, and cleaning gravel out of her wounds with Q-tips. As soon as she was cleaned and bandaged up, Jess and I headed over to the Comanche building for the Stake Volleyball Tourney. I jumped onto the YSA team for the last game and a half, then played three games for my ward. We played against the Almaden team, and it was awesome. I hadn't played in a long time, so I couldn't set the ball to save my life, and I only got a few serves in! My two strengths and I was so lamo!!! It was a lot of fun though.

I was definitely ready for bed by the time I got home! It was a great end to a great day. Long, but great!

Super Saturday

Man, oh man! I had an amazing Saturday!

I arrived at the Club around 0815 and waited for other ladies to arrive so we could carpool/caravan over to Santa Clara. As I was waiting, I decided to get directions just in case no one shows and I was on my own. Dennis, Matt, and "Little Old Man with a new hip and Knee Brace" (I can't remember his name....) all get together and help me out. Good thing, since I drove over all on my own! Woo hoo! Take that!

It was a great match! We split sets and lost in the third, but it was incredible fun! I felt pretty good from the "git go" and we still need to work on making a lot less unforced errors, but it was so fun! The ladies we played against were great! Thanks Joan and Fiona! I played with Karen, and that was a lot of fun as well. I need to take more time between serves!!!

Immediately following the match, I drove over to Milpitas to have lunch with Aunt Miriam, Connie, Uncle Fred, and Matthew! It was so great to see them all and to have a meal. The highlight of my day, was being able to play catch with Matthew. It wasn't my best showing as catcher, but considering I was playing right handed I was not too upset about it. I need to build up my arm strength though. I am not sure I could have made it to second base throwing with either arm! I love to play catch!!!

I made it to my eye exam on time and guess what? My vision improved! LOL! I got a trial pair of lenses, so now I can wait a few weeks to buy contacts. As per usual, both eyes are the same prescription! I love it! It's a cost effective situation! The cool thing about my eye exam is the doctor was really nice and we had a really fun conversation. Normally, my eye exams are rather dull, so this was a pleasant change.

Somehow, between heading over to my eye exam and texting my friends to get together and have dinner, I managed to get sick. I almost cancelled dinner even. By Saturday night, I was sick! Not sure what happened, but I am just glad it happened after my lunch with the family! I only managed an hour of church on Sunday, and Jessie had to drive us home! I called in sick to work yesterday, but made it in today and feeling spry! Glad I took care of it before I was miserable for days! Thanks, Jess and Carrie! It must have been that chicken soup!

Oh, and I decided that my efforts of improving my game have finally started paying dividends. I played a doubles Friendly Friday morning, and a singles Friendly Friday night, and felt so comfortable with a racquet in my hand Saturday morning! Good times and Ridgemont High!

Family Desire

As Prop 8 has been discussed a lot these last few weeks, I have found myself caught up in thought about my future family. I am unmarried and currently not dating, but I'm 28 and have a strong desire to start raising a family. My friend John and I, had a conversation about adopting as a single adult the other day. We were pretty much on the same page. Even though we agreed on what we felt was right, I still have a strong desire to have a family of my own.

When I turned 25, I started to explore the possibility of adopting a child. After a conversation with Scott, he finally encouraged me to re-read the "Proclamation of the Family." After reading it and pondering its contents, I knew that my research needed to stop there.

Now, a few years later, I am still single (I'm happy, don't misunderstand me). My desire to have a family is great, but I know the importance of marriage and giving children the best chance for success in life. Being a single mother because of life's circumstances is one thing, but to consciously choose to be a single mother by adopting children, at least for myself, goes against my interpretation of the family unit.

The family is ordained of God. Marriage between man and woman is essential to His eternal plan. Children are entitled to birth within the bonds of matrimony, and to be reared by a father and a mother who honor marital vows with complete fidelity. Happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ. Successful marriages and families are established and maintained on principles of faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreational activities.

By divine design, fathers are to preside over their families in love and righteousness and are responsible to provide the necessities of life and protection for their families.

Mothers are primarily responsible for the nurture of their children. In these sacred responsibilities, fathers and mothers are obligated to help one another as equal partners.

I have joked half-hearted, that when I get married, I wanted to adopt a few children right off the bat and get "caught up" with other friends and families. My friends laugh, but there is some truth to what I am saying. There are so many children in need of a loving permanent home and family. As efforts to pass Prop 8 continue, the Proclamation of the Family continues to run through my mind as well as the needs of the County for finding homes for the children:

Our greatest need for homes exists for:

Two or more related children (sibling groups)
Boys ages seven through nine
Infants and preschoolers with special needs
Teenagers

My hope, is that when my time comes to become a wife for eternity, that I may marry a man who has a desire to increase his capacity to love, and has a great love for children and creating a beautiful family.

Monday Tennis

Monday was a long day! Jesse and I went swimming in the morning and had a most excellent swim! She has come a long way and will be much faster than myself in no time. We have been working on increasing her endurance. It has been fun to see her learn to push herself. I am starting to get texts a few times a week that say something like "my arms are so sore...hahaha." She is such a trooper! I have been pushing her a little harder now that she is more proficient and it also allows me to get a better workout as well. By the way, she is at my house by 0445-0500 nearly every day!

I swam late Saturday night at the gym and Jessie came with me. We got there around 2230 and Jessie hit the hot tub to loosen up her back. I told her I was going to swim a few laps then join her. Well, I got into an incredible rhythm and just went to town. It felt so good to swim lap after lap. I haven't swam that many laps in a few years, when last I was swimming that regularly. I finally got a watch, so I was able to keep track of my lap times and now I am able to track my progress.

I played a Friendly on Tuesday with some ladies from the club and had a great time! By the second set, my serve was on lock and that felt good. I need to have that same confidence when I play on Saturday! I am looking forward to that match, as well as my Friendly tomorrow. I am playing with Karen who will be my partner in this weekend's match and I am hoping to put on a better showing then last week.

I also played a Singles Friendly against my friend, Brian. He has really improved and will be surpassing me in no time! Men are just naturally so much stronger than women, so I will not be able to keep up with his pace once he gains some consistency. I am also slow and out of shape, so the shift will be very clear. I will have to work harder in the gym and in all my other extra-circulars to keep up! We played a couple sets on Friday night and that was a lot of fun, and he beat me! It was a good match all the way around. The fact that I had played three sets of tennis earlier in the day, and swam with Jessie for about an hour, had no influence on the outcome of our match, just for the record.

Matthew has another baseball tournament in Sunnyvale this weekend, and I will be heading over to watch him play after my Match. He's such a cute kid! He's definitely a Freeman. He's nine years old, on a team that is mixed with ten year old kids and such, and is one of the tallest and the most adorable. I might be a little biased on the most adorable opinion, but hey! He's my cousin and I am entitled to that opinion. =)

Oops! I almost forgot...

Last Saturday, I went up to Elk Grove for a workshop put on by the USTA. I spent six hours doing tennis drills. It was awesome. I was tired like it was nobody's business, but I was so happy with the way the day went. It's always interesting how a group of random people put together can become a "team" by the end of a day, while engaging in team oriented activities.

I will probably never meet any of those people again, but I had a great time with them. My favorites were probably Thad (a father of two), and the kids from the Sacramento Park and Redcreation Department. Thad, because he was taking the class for his kids. There were others there for the same reason, but he shared with me the reasons. He spent money for he and his kids to learn tennis together, but was very disappointed. He wanted to be able to give his children something more. Now he can give them the gift of tennis in their lives, and be spending that time with them as well. It's a win, win situation. As for the Park Rec Kids, they were all brand new to tennis. They couldn't hit a ball in the court to save their lives at 830 saturday morning. By the end of the day, they were doing so well, it warmed my heart. Not only were they hitting the ball, they were having fun! It was great to see!

I'm a Tennis Instructor

It's official! I have taught my first official tennis class. I have done many individual lessons with people, and have even gotten paid to do it. But, this is the first time I have taught a group class as an "official" tennis instructor. It was so great! There were eight kids in attendance and I can remember every name and face, which is a miracle for someone who is horrible at remembering names.

Let me tell you, finding the location of the courts was the biggest challenge of my day!!! I don't even think the people at the Community Center (the place where people sign up for the class) even know where to find it, because the directions they gave my were BOOTY!!! I had to ask a group of kids that were walking home from school, and an old lady riding a bike. I finally found it with enough time to spare to set up for class.

I had so much fun teaching these kids! I was a little nervous at first and survived a short moment of sheer panic! We were doing an easy drill and the kids were struggling to get through it, and it looked like utter chaos! I thought for a moment that the parents might jump out of the stands and pull their kids off the court! But then I remembered, "Hey! I know what I am doing! This is the learning period of their experience here. No one is going to be hitting like Federer the first day." Then it was all gravy from there! (side note: I am craving biscuits and gravy from O.D.'s).

I was sure tired after I was done teaching the class, and was in bed super early. Jessie came over, but it may have been a waste of gas since we were both pretty tired! I wanted to hit the pool at the gym today, so I made sure I was in bed early. Today is my Friday, so I am looking forward to staying up a little later tonight.

Might stay up and work on a little side project I've been working on, since I need the cash. We'll see.

McCain vs. Obama

So, I am not super political...however, I have decided that McCain is the best fit for the next President. Maybe there are others more qualified, but if McCain and Obama are my choices; then I must choose McCain.

Neither has impressed me much, but there is something to be said about a man like Obama. When he talks, he lacks some sincerity. He reminds me of the typical politician who tells all the flaming liberals exactly what they want to hear. Because they lack vision, and he figures that it’s easier to convince them of their votes then with someone whom has a more logic based approached to making a decision. I'm not prejudice against the left or the right, makes no difference to me. It's the ever growing number of fanatics.

"What?" you say. "He lacks vision?" I'm not saying he lacks vision as a person. But he caters to all the far left liberals that only care about the danged dolphins and their own personal agendas that they sometimes forget about the bigger picture. The rest of the country that has needs to be attended to as well. And guess what??? Like it or not, we are a part of a bigger world than just the United States, and sometimes, we have to be involved in some foreign activities. Deal!

I enjoy life’s simple luxuries, but I also know that when I am on a strict budget, sometimes those things have got to be cut. Even my university education had to be put on hold due to a lack of funding. Do I blame the President of the University for not allowing me to continue studying? No. It is simply what needed to be done, in order for me to maintain my apartment, and have food on my table. It is one “good” that is sacrificed for another good.

Sure, you can have your free speech about "war is bad" and whatever else you feel the need to whine about. It took a war and the lives of soldiers to give you that freedom, so shut your pie hole when you talk to me! I have a right to not give a flying rip about anything you say. Don't you think I want to be able to go to a concert of my choice, with my hard earned money, without you polluting the streets with your signs, and retarded chants about what only you and God know what? Is that not also ruining the environment? It impedes my right to go downtown for some live tunes without your smelly anus in my way, and secreting the foul stench of your verbal feces coming out of your alimentary canal. That is my free speech for ya!

I'm going to vote for McCain, and I have that right. Stop questioning my faith in God, and my devotion to my religion and country because you believe in something different. I'm not trying to convince you that you are wrong. Just leave me alone so I can have to freedom to choose without the ridicule and ignorance you want to throw my way.

Here is my logic: Obama makes me want to vomit inside my own mouth. McCain doesn’t. Simple.

I vote because I believe it to be my civic duty. I have no desire to be involved in politics, and not even discuss it over dinner, so please, don’t hassle me. Vote for the best man you think is right for the job. I don’t vote republican or democrat, since it doesn’t matter to me. What matters is doing what I believe to be right. We can agree to disagree, that is our right as Americans.

Protect the Family - Yes on Prop 8

10 September 2008

I don't like serves without pace! =-)

The Panda Bears don't get along with the Penguins, even though they share the same color scheme.

Last night's match was pretty fun. Our team won! My partner and I lost our court, but the good news is we improved (3-6, 4-6). Really, I think we were very capable of winning but I just lack the consistency. There were so many stupid mistakes on my end, and I wouldn't be butt hurt if Shashi requested I never be her partner again. Although, I am committing myself to work harder to improve my game.

I have finally made a goal of where I want to go with tennis. Without goals, we have nothing to reach for, or to give us motivation. My overall goals are to have a strong core strength training program, and to become a 4.5 rated player. I know it is going to take time, but that is where I would like to be. With that in mind, I can look at where I am at and decide what needs to be improved in my game to get there.

First step, what is a 4.0? What attributes does a 4.0 have? How do I get there? What are my strengths?

4.0
You have dependable strokes, including directional control and depth on both forehand and backhand sides on moderate-paced shots. You can use lobs, overheads, approach shots and volleys with some success and occasionally force errors when serving. Rallies may be lost due to impatience. Teamwork in doubles is evident.

I am excited to play some better tennis, and about other upcoming events.

Also...the loss of my friend yesterday had more of an affect on me than I had realized. As I was driving to my match, my mind was caught up with thoughts of her, and the adventures we shared during her short time here. I am grateful to have known her, and to have had her bless my life, even though it was brief. I pulled into a parking spot at the Club and felt so emotional. I was happy, because I knew she wasn't suffering, and I felt a tinge of sadness because it may be some time before we see each other again. As I waited for my teammates to arrive, I turned on my MP3 player and Ludovico Einaudi came on. It was my favorite song by him called "Due Tramonti" which means "Two Sunsets." I love the introspective feeling I get when I hear it, and the peace and calm that comes over my body and mind. I took some time to collect my thoughts and feelings prior to game time. It helped me to smile when I thought of her, rather than feel sad. I know that she is with our Heavenly Father and is happy. Bye, Joogie. =)

Game Day Preparation

0415 - Get out of bed and pack my clothes for work.

0431 - Receive text message from Jessie "dude i woke up whth [with] a headache"

0432 - Response to Jessie - "Okay"

0434 - Jessie "i took drugs but i dont want to get worse from swimming"

0434 - EJ - "cool cool"

0437 - Jessie - "sorrxw [sorry]i:ll text u later =) have a g'morning"

0438 - EJ - "You too! No apologies. Feel better."

0532 - Jessie "you know what sucks right now...that i'm wide awake & no headache =/"

0533 - Shaking my head and smiling, thinking to myself "Jessie oh Jessie."

0605 - Arrive at SJSRC to swim

0612 - Enter Pool. By the way, it's freezing cold, the water is not as warm as usual, I don't have my contacts in, so I can't see in the darkness of the morning, whether or not the lane I am in has someone in it already, so I swim and hope for the best.

0637 - Exit pool with a purpose. It's pickin' cold!

0647 - Showered and dressed and meet a woman named Lark who decides she wants to chat about bad circulation in her hands and shoulders. She was really nice, but since I didn't want to be rude...

0707 - Clocked in for work. (seven minutes late)

I swam hard, even though I didn't swim for very long. So all morning I was starving, looking for food to eat in the office. Fortunately, Shirlie hooked me up with a few bites of left over raviolis and a few bites of a piece of lasagna, then had eggs and toast. Way nummers!

Now, it's about leaving time, and I have been doing my best to keep my wits about me today. Office, friends, and the loss of a friend have kept my mind occupied all day.

I am ready for tonight. My partner and I have communicated that we are going to be "n sync" at least with our wardrobe, and will be wearing the same colored top. I clinic-ed twice this last week or so, drilled myself on my volley's, and have been working hard to get better rest. Just finished my mango I started eating at 0930 today, hahaha! I'm sure the mango will help jump start my afternoon!

Went to lunch with Don at the SJSU Institute, and alas, we were well received. I warned Don ahead of time that we might be "received warmer than usual." Lunch was good. More importantly, lunch was FREE! Was able to get my, as of late, small weekly dose of seeing John. I was happy to see him there. I know work has been busy for him, so even though it was brief, it enriched my day to be in his company. Now, if only we could schedule a game of catch.

It's now 1515 on Tuesday, 09 September 2008...it's time to prepare to leave the office and prepare for my tennis match. Translation...I need a nap!!! Hahaha! I can hardly wait to play tonight!!!

Happy Birthday, Cath...Carly???

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CATHY!!! (29 August)

The girls and I went out to eat last night. Tia left the baby at home with the Husband, Jessie and I went to dinner...again. On our way to Coco's, I remembered it was my cousin, Cathy's birthday. So, as I am driving "legally" with my cell phone, I "call" Cathy. She doesn't answer, so we sing "Cover Girl" by New Kids on the Block, and I shout "Happy Birthday, Cathy!" and also some other non-shares about the upcoming New Kids concert.

...

Dinner is over and I glance at my phone to see what calls I have missed, then I noticed that I had an outgoing call to someone named "Carly." Interesting...

...

Not sure I know anyone named, "Carly." Biscuits and Gravy!!! I called the wrong person! Now, someone out there in the San Jose area has the lovely, dulcet tones of three hot women, singing on her voice mail. Who knew? I am not sure I should have been driving last night, I was so tired, but I was. And you know what??? No one died. We got close, I'm not saying we didn't, but no one died. The only thing that suffered a death, was that little piece inside all of us that dies when we realize we did something completely, utterly retarded, and there were witnesses to retell the story later.

Success!

Success! Yes, it was a success! Did we add a tally in the "W" column? No. However, for me personally, the first match is out of the way, and I had a great time learning, growing, and watching myself hit the ball into the net over and over again. =) There is merit in every challenging experience, even when sometimes the lesson is repeated 15 times in the course of 25 seconds.

My partner, Shashi, was really great! The whole first set was filled with both of us try to convince ourselves to relax, and eventually by the second to the last game of the first set, we started to actually feel it. My serve that usually goes in, and I don't usually have issues double faulting...well, I double faulted so many times, I about wanted to spit on my racquet. I had a lot of fun. I like feeling that competive pressure. It wasn't a lot of pressure, but it was good. Keeps the adrenaline up. I wasn't as composed as I would like to be when competing, but I reckon that will come the more I play. I sure hope I get a few more opportunities to play before the season ends.

The weather was nice, and I finally started breaking a good sweat during our never-ending game towards the end of the first set. Game six...whew! I must have served 50 times during that game. Literally! We were in Deuce for what seemed an eternity, and had to replay points at least four or five times, due to balls flying into our court from the matches going on around us. Shashi was right! We were meant to win that game. Who knew we would have to fight so hard to get it???

I need to hit more often so I can get back some consistency! I don't have the confidence I need to win just yet, but I know that comes in time and with effort! Hurrah! Hurrah! It will be on after I put a little more time in!

Official score: 1-6, 3-6 (But there were a lot of close games)!!!

Excitement in the Air - Be like, Novak!

Tonight, is my first official competitive tennis match in over a decade. *Deep breath and exhale slowly* Yes, I am excited. Yes, I am nervous. Yes, I am scared that we will be beaten into pulp. We have been getting our backsides handed to us in nearly every match. We are playing in a league up, so victories are hard to come by, it seems.

It is a developmental season, preparing for March's competitive season. However, for me, I don't like to lose. I can lose with a smile, but I don't like to lose. Mostly, I don't like to lose to myself. To commit unforced errors and lose a match because you handed them over half their points...not to my liking.

However, not that I am expecting to lose, in fact, I am expecting to win! My partner, Shashi, is really great to play with. We have only played a couple times together, and both of us are singles players. This has pros and cons to both sides. One of our biggest challenges has been communication. When you play singles, you play the whole court. In doubles you share the court, and when you decide to switch sides, you need to let each other know. Also, in singles you can go after everything yourself, and in doubles your partner will be there to back you up. Communication is so important, and yet, we are just now learning to talk to each other. She is super nice, and is really down to earth.

The ladies we played with last night were a little on the scary side, but they were cool. They are of the more vintage variety, but can really put the ball where it needs to be. I hope to be as good as they are soon, and just as good when I am their age, if not better! We lost both sets, but it was close most of the way. We made a good comeback and they won in the tie-break the first set 6-7(5), and we lost the second set 4-6.

I used to have a strong backhand, now...it's not so strong. I for sure need to work on my backhand side. They tore me up on it last night. If I had even a decent backhand, we probably would have won. But, they saw the weakness and exploited it. I even got aced. I hate that! I at least want to touch it with my racquet. But she got me clean away! I had to regain composure mentally after that. I smiled on the outside, but was ready to spit on the inside. Just at myself I was upset. At least get a tip! Just make contact with the ball somehow! Move my feet! So, I double faulted after they won the game on the ace. I don't double fault too often, but one double fault is one too many as far as I am concerned!

It was a lot of fun. Even Roger Federer, and Novak Djokovic have to learn from each game or practice. I learned a ton, and relearned a ton. I am really looking forward to playing tonight! =)

Weekend Fun

I was so tired on Friday that I almost bailed on Brianne's "Celebrating her passing of some Nursing exam" dinner, but I went anyway. First thing I did was buy a caffeine loaded beverage. =) I am really glad I made it to dinner, because I got to talk to some of my friends I rarely get to see. There were a few people from the Singles ward there, but not anyone I knew really well, and three "marrieds."

I didn't even know Jenny and Mike were back from Guam, nor did I know they were living in Gilroy now! Jenny (aka La Yeni) is one of my favorite people! She looks so great and later in the evening; she and I had a great time dancing! Tiff and Nols were there, as well as George and Lindsey. We all got to catch up over dinner and so come actual party time at Bri's, it was all dancing!

I am glad Lindsey and George are so laid back. George is one of my favorite dance partners. Since he is a fireman, he knows how to be a pole! Hahahaha! We were not super naughty, but there were a few George sandwiches made Friday night! Lindsey and I made sure of it! Not only that, but the most least likely person in the house, Christian Peel, had the wonderful pleasure of being danced with by four girls at one time!!! It was so funny! Did he dance with us??? Not really! He just put his hands in the air and spun around in circles shouting "WOOOOOOOO!!!! WOOOOOOOO!!!!!" So funny! He may have missed the object of the exercise! ;)

Jessie definitely lived up to hear "pole dancer" status (she really did take a pole dancing class, for the record). The only thing though...I even told her this at one point of the evening...she had one speed! Hahahaha! She needs to get married soon, that's all I'm saying!

Even though there were technically more men than women at the party, most of them just stood by like bumps on a log, while all the girls danced with each other. Or, they were outside playing video games! You have to respect guys like George and Jordan, even Christian. They may not be the best dancers, or have the most rhythm, but the girls like to dance, so they get out there anyway to make the women happy. Women are easier to understand than men might think. We don't care if you dance well, just grab us by the hips, or take us by the hand, depending on the circumstance, and lead us on the dance floor. That's HOT!!! Be confident, or fake it till you make it! There is a quote from a song I heard on a movie the other day..."Well does he take you out dancin' just so he can hold you close?" I really liked that line, because I think that is what girls want. Wouldn't making your girl happy be enough to at least take her out on the dance floor once in awhile? I'm just saying.

I felt bad for all these wonderful girls out there dancing, and all the boys looking on. Only to find out later, that half of them wants to take one of them out. In fact, one of them came up to me after the party to ask about one of my friends. (First of all, be a man! Don't disrespect one woman to get info on another. Should that girl decide to tell her friend that you asked, that is a turn-off). He stood by and watched her dance all night long, and never got out there to dance with her. How is she going to notice his interest if he is hiding in a corner? When she wasn't dancing, he didn't talk to her. I understand being shy, I am not the most outgoing person in the world, but there are times to man up. So many wonderful women, and no men to take them out? Just scared boys...it makes me sad for those guys that are missing out on great women. I am not a man hater, just feeling sad that they haven't taken the opportunity to spend time with quality young women. I won't quote directly what some of the girls said to each other while dancing, you'll have to ask me about it in person, but it made me feel so sad.
